Pest Control 101: Various Types of Pest Control Techniques – Part 1

in Pioneer Pest Control 13/05/2015 | 0 Comments

Flies, cockroaches, rats, spiders, termites, bed bugs – these are just some of the pests that you can encounter in your home or office in Western Sydney, and they can wreak havoc on your properties. Worse, they may bring about disease-causing bacteria and viruses that may jeopardise the safety and health of your family members, employees, partners or customers. This is why it is crucial for you to deal with infestations immediately and appropriately.

But before you can successfully control the onset of pests in your home or office, you need to make sure that you are using the right pest control method. Knowing each one will help you weigh all your options and develop an emergency pest control plan to stop the problem once and for all. In this post, we’ll focus on two of the most common: baits and traps.

Traps

Using traps is one of the most popular options to control mice, rats, possums and other rodents. There are three types of traps typically used to eliminate rodent infestation in your home or office: snap traps, glue traps and live catch traps. A snap trap uses triggers that hold the baits, and kills the pest by striking its head or jaw using a wire rod or spring. A glue trap utilises adhesives to hold the rodent while a live catch trap makes use of a cage to catch rodents and other pests. The latter captures the pests alive and unharmed, allowing them to be released elsewhere.

Baits

Baiting is a common method of pest control that makes use of pesticides or any organic substance to attract insects and lead them into traps. Rats and other rodents are often controlled using this type of method. Some baits may involve feeding pests with poisons that they bring back to their colonies, thereby irradiating the entire pest population. The poisons may come in different forms, such as seeds, pellets, liquids or blocks.

Baits and traps are two main types of pest control solutions that you can make use of in order to eliminate the problems of infestations in your home or workspace. But before trying any of these solutions, make sure to consult a pest control expert to learn if these methods will work for the type of pest infestation in your property.

Watch out for our next instalment, where we’ll discuss the other types of pest control methods, such as biological, natural and chemical pest control solutions.
