6 Questions to Ask Your Pest Inspector

in Pioneer Pest Control 15/03/2016 | 0 Comments

When you have a pest problem in your home that you cannot manage yourself, it might be time to call in the big guns! However, just as you wouldn’t allow a painter, builder or air conditioner maintenance person into your home without checking their credentials, there are a number of things you should ask your home pest control provider before you let them loose on your property.

Suspicious

Here are six important questions to ask.

1. Ask your pest inspector if they are fully licensed for using pesticides and for pest control activities.

Licensed operators are trained and qualified in safely handling pesticides and also in identifying pests and their habitats, deciding on which pesticides and methods to use for each case, and in formulating an overall management plan.

In NSW, pest control licences are issued by the NSW Government WorkCover Authority for domestic and commercial premises and also for using fumigation methods.

Make sure to choose only licensed pest controllers and also feel free to ask them about the types of pesticides they will be using, and if relevant, whether these could cause problems for pregnant women, infants or people with allergies or asthma.

2. Ask about insurance cover.

Your pest inspector should have insurance cover for property damage and also for personal accidents and injuries. The risk of these things happening is usually quite low but it is still something you should check beforehand for your own protection.

3. Ask what experience your pest inspector has with your type of pest.

There is no one-size treatment for eliminating pests. It will differ depending on whether you have cockroaches, termites, wasps, rodents, spiders, bed bugs and so on, so make sure they have dealt with your particular house pest before, and which methods – such as dusts, traps, baits, sprays – they intend using.

4. Ask if there is anything you will need to do.

It’s important that you know ahead of time whether you will need to leave the house, or if you will need to move furniture or other items for your pest inspector to treat the problem. Make sure you get this information early so you can be prepared.

5. Find out if further treatments will be required.

With some types of pest, one treatment may not be enough and ongoing ones may be necessary. Ask upfront if you will be likely to need additional treatments on top of this one.

6. Ask about guarantees.

A quality pest extermination company should offer money-back guarantees, so make sure not to forget to ask this one.
